I'm afraid I'm out of practice with graphite...plus, I prefer a smoother surface, like cartridge paper, but I wanted to try something different. I wasn't able to get the background completely smooth, and the face still isn't quite right, but, oh well, it's just for fun.
I think the rough background is suitable for the spontaneous down on the ground world of the young child. And I think the rendering of the face and hair well done. It's a good drawing, full of feeling and atmosphere, even if it's not exactly what you usually do.
Thanks! I've been doing cp for so long that I've forgotten how to do graphite well...grrrr! But it's kind of like riding a bike...if you haven't ridden in a while, you're wobbly at first, but it doesn't take long to get back where you were.
This is really nice...and a word of advice - don't worry too much about getting a background smooth - if the paper won't let you, take advantage of it and see what kind of cool effects you can get. A background doesn't always have to be smooth to look out of focus. I like the way your background looks in this - it adds a lot of interest.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
